Will bought tickets to the Keith Urban concert at Allstate Arena before my birthday rolled around. They were my birthday gift from him. And what a gift!
Our seats were excellent. I was about five seats away from the catwalk that runs out onto the main floor. Keith was thisclose to me…and I could see the sweat on his brow. He is also quite the showman while leaving no question that he is the star he is because of his performing abilities. Will was quite impressed with his instrumental skills–guitar, piano, banjo, etc. He can shred a guitar like nobody’s business. He really interacts with his audience, which of course completely endears him to everyone present (particularly the females). At one point, he brought a little boy (five years old) on stage who had colored a picture of a turkey and a barn for him. He also signed a woman’s guitar, took some flowers with a note attached into his teeth while playing, and walked out into the audience to sing a song–all without missing a beat. That is the mark of a true professional.
I think I’m in love! Just kidding…but not really.
I told Will that Keith is one of the few men in this world I would ever leave him for. He told me that was okay. I can’t help it…that Aussie accent gets me every time. I’m a sucker for a British, South African, Australian, Irish, Welsh, or Scottish accent. There’s just something about it that makes it incredibly sexy. I had a great time. In all honesty, it was my first major concert by a major performer. I had heard from various people that Keith Urban really puts on a great show but was somewhat skeptical since I had never been to a concert before. The only other one I’ve ever been to was a small one at my university put on by Sister Hazel. There probably wasn’t even 1,000 people at that one. Keith’s concert played to a sold-out crowd of 20,000 screaming fans. I didn’t have a voice left at the end!
Oh, yeah…and you’d be really surprised at how many country fans will show up at a country music concert in Chicago. I’ve never seen so many cowboy and straw hats in one place! People drove or flew in from some pretty faraway locations. I saw a poster next to the catwalk that said, “Louisville KY loves Keith.” I saw another one that said, “My husband says it’s okay.” Yeah, mine, too!
