Novel Addictions

Wow.  I don’t really know what to say, but I feel I should at least acknowledge that Heath Ledger died this afternoon. He was a talented actor, and while I wasn’t a big fan, I certainly appreciated his work. He was brilliant in Brokeback Mountain, and I still love the movie A Knight’s Tale. In fact, I believe that’s the very first movie I saw Ledger in. More than anything, I feel sorry for Heath’s daughter, Matilda. Thankfully, she isn’t old enough to realize what’s going on. I can’t imagine the pain that Michelle Williams must be experiencing right now.  She and Heath appeared to be deeply in love at one time, and a love like that doesn’t just go away. Whatever problems they had in their relationship, they had a child together and were still a large part of each other’s lives.

I hope that for Matilda and Michelle’s sake, the media will handle the whole situation with diplomacy. The last thing the family needs is sensationalism. They should be allowed time to grieve. But the media is already following Michelle’s every move by reporting earlier this evening that she was on a flight to New York City. I have a feeling we can now look forward to weeks of speculation and inquiry. More’s the pity.
